As Founder and President of the Turkish Transplantation Society (TOND), it was my great honor and privilege to welcome you to the TOND International Symposium on Liver Tumors and Transplantation organized in Honor of Prof. Thomas Starzl’s 90^th Birthday, which was held in Ankara, Turkey on 3-4 November, 2016

It was an excellent opportunity for interaction, networking, and discussion on the latest advances in liver tumors and transplantation procedures and therapy. World-renowned professionals, dedicated to promoting and learning about the scientific advances in liver transplantation, came together to share their experiences and knowledge.

With a varied scientific program, the Symposium aimed to broaden the education of specialists from various disciplines involved in the care and treatment of liver transplant patients. In conjunction with the scientific program, a number of social events that highlighted the cultural and historical treasures of Ankara and Turkey were organized for all of our guests to take part in.

The manuscripts included in this issue of Experimental and Clinical Transplantation address most of the relevant aspects in liver tumors and transplantation that were discussed during the
symposium.

I wish to thank the members of the Local Organizing Committee and the Scientific Committee for their hard work and dedication, and our guests for joining us in our capital city, Ankara, for what proved to be an outstanding meeting.
