One of the surgical complication after kidney transplantion is wound infection. The purpose of this analysis was to determine the incidence of wound infection in kidney donors and recipients. Between December 1991 and September 2000, we performed 843 kidney transplantions from living donors. Of these recipients, 31(3.7%) developed either a superficial or a deep wound infection. Superficial infection (above the fascia) was 3.1% and deep infection (below the fascia) was 0.6%. Diabetic patients were 2.4% and obese patients were 1.2%. There was not any wound infection in donors. Immunosuppressive drugs especially in diabetic and or obese patients were the most common cause of wound infection in recipients.
