NEPHRON DOSING DOES AFFECT THE OUTCOME IN RENAL TRANSPLANTATION

Intraoperative kidney weight is a surrogate marker of nephron mass and we utilized it to test this hypothesis. Intra- operative kidney weight (Kw) was measured for 85 pts. Creatinine was considered as a measure of renal function. Kw / BwR had a negative correlation with creatinine at discharge with a correlation coefficient of 59.1 (p<0.001). Kidney weight alone also had a negative correlation with discharge creatinine (correlation coefficient of 23.6, p<0.05). Recipient dry body weight had a positive correlation with discharge creatinine (correlation coefficient 48.1 p<0.001). Kw/BwR had a negative correlation with creatinine at six months (correlation coefficient 52 p<0.001). Kidney weight recipient body weight ratio (Kw/BwR) and recipient body weight (Bw) are independent covariates affecting the serum creatinine and graft function.
