Renal artery stenosis (RAS) occurs in 1 – 10 % of cases after kidney transplantation (KT). The objective of this study is to report the presenting symptoms, the modality of diagnosis, the types of treatment, and outcome of our cases. Patients & Between Oct. 1985 and Dec.2003, 501 KT from LRD were performed at our center. The diagnosis of RAS was suspected clinically The color Doppler ultrasound was available for our patients since April 1998. It was routinely performed for all suspected cases followed by arteriogram. 5 cases of RAS out of 501 KT have been diagnosed (1%). The age of the patients at the time of diagnosis was 27 - 37 years (mean 31.8). Transluminal angioplasty without stenting was performed in 1 case. Surgical treatment was applied in 4 patients. The follow-up was 4 - 61 months (mean: 20). All cases except one have a normal blood arterial pressure& normal blood creatinine at discharge. ARS after KT should be suspected clinically. Transluminal angioplasty needs to be performed by experienced interventional radiologists. Surgical treatment in experienced hands has very good results.
