COMPARING TAGUGHI AND MODIFIED LICH URETEROVESICAL REIMPLANTATION TECHNIQUES FOR KIDNEY TRANSPLANTS

We compared the incidence of urological complications, and duration of ureteral reimplatation for the taguchi and modified lich techniques. We recorded all urological and anastomotic complications that developed from March 1,2003 to August 21,2004 (mean followup for taguchi group, 8 month, and for M.lich groups, 12month). The urological complications evaluated included complicated hematuria, urinary fistula, ureteral stenosis, symptomatic VUR and operative time.the chi-square test was done to compare the proportion of complications in the groups. Of the 144 transplants evaluated 100 and 44 were performed via the M.lich and taguchi techniques, respectively. The incidence of anastomotic complications was 4% in the M.lich group included stenosis in 2%, fistula in 1%, complicated hematuria 1%and no case of symptomatic VUR. The incidence of a Complications was 9%in taguchi group included complicated hematuria in three patients (6.8%), one ureteral stenosis (2.2%), without any others. There was a higher proportion of hematuria at the limit of statistical significance in the taguchi group(P=0.05).average operative time for the taguchi and M.lich techniques was 10.2 and 24.6 minutes, respectively.this difference was significant(P=0.2). In the sample studied taguchi ureteroneocyctostomy proved to be a more rapid method with increasing the incidence of complicated hematuria.there were no cases of ureteral fistula and symptomatic reflux in the taguchi group. However, M.lich ureteroneocyctostomy remained first choice in our center
