WORLDWIDE NETWORKING: TPM INTERNATIONAL REGISTRY OF ORGAN DONATION AND TRANSPLANTATION (IRODAT)

Although the basic principles in organ procurement throughout the world are not different, the transplantation rates vary greatly from one country to another. Transplant Procurement Management (TPM) created a worldwide net of professionals involved in transplant coordination to collect the representative donation-transplantation activity values of their countries. This information has been yearly collected and showed in a free access web site. Reporters are in most cases board members of donation and transplantation national organizations. In order to guarantee the faithfulness of the data, 2004 IRODAT edition allows a straight updating of the values at TPM web site by providing them a user name and password. The current database includes: responsible name, organization, country population, donors rate: cadaveric, NHBD and living donors, total transplants: single (cadaveric and living) and double kidney, cadaveric and living liver, heart, heart + lung, lung, pancreas, kidney+pancreas and other combinations. All data reported is presented in absolute values and in rates of parts per million population. Although the first call was in 2002, previous annual rates have been reported obtaining information since 1993.
