LAPAROSCOPIC DONOR NEPHRECTOMY 50 CASES IN JEDDAH KIDNEY CENTER, KING FAHD GENERAL HOSPITAL, JEDDAH, SAUDI ARABIA

1000 kidney transplants had been performed in the Kidney Center, Jeddah Saudi Arabia 1991-2004. 750 living – related Kidney Transplants, 250 Cadaveric Kidney Transplants.
50 Laparoscopic Donor Nephrectomies were done during the period 2002 – 2004. All were left Kidneys, one with two arteries, one with three arteries. One case converted to open2%. Warm ischemic time was between 2 – 7.5 minutes. Surgical procedures will be discussed; in addition a videotape will be presented with presentation.
Postoperative ATN was 0% and follow up to 6 months. There was no difference in comparison to the follow up of open nephrectomy in Kidney function and surgical complications. We conclude that Laparoscopic donor nephrectomy is safe and as good as open nephrectomy in our hands.
